Iron Filter Installation in Hesperus, CO

Iron Filter Installation in Hesperus, CO

Iron in well water shows up as orange or brown stains in sinks, tubs and toilets, and as a metallic taste. The EPA secondary standard is 0.3 mg/L. Many wells run well above it. Hesperus, CO Well Water Treatment handles iron filter installation in Hesperus, CO for homes on private wells.

We start with a test, because the type of iron matters. Clear-water ferrous iron comes out of the tap looking clean and turns orange in the bowl. Red-water ferric iron is already oxidized. Iron bacteria leave a slimy film. Each one calls for a different setup.

Options we install:

• Air-injection oxidizing filters with a birm or katalox bed and an air pocket at the top of the tank
• Greensand filters regenerated with potassium permanganate or chlorine
• Chlorine injection plus a backwashing carbon filter for heavy iron or iron bacteria

We size the tank to your pump's flow rate and backwash needs. A 10x54 tank needs a certain gpm to backwash properly, and an undersized well can starve it. We check that before we set anything.

Well water treatment for iron works best with a sediment prefilter and a softener after it if hardness is also high.
